Privacy policy
Remember Me is a private app for families to keep the life story, photos and memories of people they love. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, where it is stored, who can see it, and how you can delete it. We have tried to write it plainly. If anything is unclear, write to support@remember-me.app.
The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account details and the memorial content you and your family choose to add.
- Memorials are always private. Only people invited to a memorial can see it. There are no public profiles and no public feeds.
- There are no ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or rent your data.
- Our app runs on Google Firebase, which stores the data for us in the United States.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time. Memorials you own are deleted with it.
Who we are
"Remember Me", "we" and "us" refer to the operator of the Remember Me app and of remember-me.app. You can contact us at support@remember-me.app for privacy, support or any other question.
What we collect
Your account
- Your name, which you choose. Other members of a memorial you belong to see this name.
- Your email address, if you sign in with email and password. We use it to sign you in, verify your address, reset your password and match invitations sent to that address. People you share a memorial with can see your email address in that memorial's member list.
- Your phone number, if you sign in with a text-message (SMS) code. It is kept only by our sign-in service (Firebase Authentication) to sign you in. It is not shown to other members and is not stored with your memorials.
- Your password, if you use one, is handled by Firebase Authentication. We never see it in plain text.
- An account identifier created by Firebase Authentication, used to connect your account to the memorials you belong to and your role in each one.
Memorial content
When you or other members create or edit a memorial, we store what is added, for example:
- the name of the person remembered, their dates of birth and death (which may be partial or approximate), a short biography and a tribute;
- life story chapters, life events with dates, places and descriptions, and translations of this text that members add;
- the family circle: names of relatives and their relationships, optionally linked to a member's account;
- a portrait and cover picture, and photos and other media (such as videos, voice recordings or documents, where your plan allows them), with basic file details such as type, size and dimensions. If a photo contains embedded information such as when or where it was taken, the app may keep that information with the photo. We never invent dates or places that are not there;
- who added each item and when, so the memorial can show it and apply each member's permissions.
Memorial content is often about people who have passed away and about living relatives. Please add only what you are comfortable sharing with the people you invite.
Invitations and membership
- When an owner invites someone, we store the invitation: the memorial, the role offered (for example "viewer"), who sent it, when it expires and whether it was accepted or revoked.
- If the invitation is sent to an email address, we store that address so that only the matching verified account can accept it.
- Invitation links contain a secret code. We store only a one-way fingerprint (hash) of that code, never the code itself.
- For each memorial, we store its members, their roles, their names and (if they have one) their email address.
Information on your device
- Reminders. If you turn on yearly reminders for life events, the app schedules local notifications on your device. These are created and stored on your phone, not sent from our servers. You can turn them off in the app or in your device settings.
- Offline copy. The app keeps a cached copy of memorials you can access, so they open quickly and work offline. The app removes this copy when you sign out, delete your account, or lose access to a memorial.
- App preferences such as your chosen language, kept on your device.
Analytics and crash reports
The app does not currently include analytics or crash-reporting tools. We do not use advertising identifiers. If we add crash reporting or usage analytics in the future, we will update this policy first, and they will never include your memorial content, your email address or invitation codes.
This website (remember-me.app)
This section is about the website at remember-me.app only. The Remember Me app itself does not include analytics or advertising tools (see "Analytics and crash reports" above), and nothing below applies to the app or to your memorials.
Analytics, only if you agree
When you first visit the website, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google LLC, to understand how the website is used, so we can improve it. If you decline, or do not choose, Google Analytics is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or "Do Not Track" signal, we treat it as a decline unless you later accept in Cookie settings.
If you accept, Google Analytics collects:
- the pages you view, their titles, and the website that sent you here;
- how you use the pages, for example which buttons and links you select, which questions you open on the help page, and whether you read most of a blog post;
- technical details such as your device type, browser, operating system, screen size and language; and
- an approximate location (country and city) that Google derives from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
It sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) that hold a random identifier, so that visits can be counted. These cookies last up to two years unless you delete them. We keep analytics data for 14 months.
We never send Google your name, email address, phone number, invitation links or codes, or any memorial content. Invitation pages (/invite/…) never load analytics. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising: advertising storage, ad personalisation and Google signals are turned off, and we do not combine this data with other information about you.
Your choice and how to change it
- Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage on this device, not on our servers.
- You can change it at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw consent, analytics stops on your next page view; you can also delete the
_gacookies in your browser settings. - You can also block Google Analytics on all websites with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Hosting
The website is served by Firebase Hosting, a Google service. Like any web server, it processes technical information such as your IP address and browser details to deliver the pages and protect against abuse. Google may process this information and analytics data in the United States. Read more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
How we use information
We use the information above only to:
- create and secure your account and sign you in;
- store memorials and show them to the people who have access;
- send and accept invitations, and enforce each member's role;
- send service emails you ask for, such as email verification and password reset;
- apply your plan's limits (for example, how many photos a memorial can hold);
- answer your messages, handle reports of misuse, and keep the service safe; and
- meet legal obligations.
We do not use your content for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell, rent or trade your information.
Who can see your information
- Members of a memorial. Only people who are members of a memorial can see its content, its member list (names and email addresses) and who added what. What each member can change depends on their role (owner, admin, contributor or viewer). Owners and admins can also see pending invitations.
- No one else. There are no public memorials, public profiles, followers or search. Removing a member, or revoking an invitation, takes away access immediately.
- Our service providers. We use Google Firebase, a service of Google LLC, to run the app (see below). Google processes the data on our behalf and under our instructions.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
Where your data is stored
The app is built on Google Firebase. We use these Firebase services:
| Service | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | Accounts, sign-in by email and password or by SMS code, email verification and password reset. Text messages with sign-in codes are sent through this service. To prevent abuse, it may check that the request comes from the genuine app (on some devices this can show a reCAPTCHA check). |
| Cloud Firestore | The database for accounts, memorial text, members and invitations. |
| Cloud Storage for Firebase | Portraits, photos and other media files. |
| Cloud Functions for Firebase | Server code that manages invitations, roles, plan limits and deletions. |
Our database is located in Google's nam5 multi-region and our server code runs in us-central1, both in the United States. Files are stored in the United States as well. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. Google may also process technical information such as IP addresses and device details to deliver and secure these services. You can read more at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Data is encrypted in transit between the app and Firebase, and encrypted at rest by Google. Access to memorial data is checked on the server for every read and write, based on your membership and role.
How long we keep information
- We keep your account and memorials for as long as your account exists, or until you delete them.
- Invitations stay with their memorial as a record of who was invited. Unused invitations expire automatically (by default after 14 days, at most 30 days), and owners can revoke them at any time.
- When content is deleted, it is removed from our live database and file storage. Copies may remain for a limited time in Google's systems as part of their normal deletion process.
- If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of requests such as deletions.
Deleting your data
Delete your account in the app: tap your profile picture on the Home screen to open Profile, then choose Delete account. You may be asked to sign in again to confirm. We then delete:
- your sign-in account (including your email address or phone number) and your profile;
- your membership in every memorial; and
- every memorial you own, with all of its chapters, events, family circle, invitations, photos and other media, including content other members added to it.
Deletion happens right away and cannot be undone. If other relatives use a memorial you own, let them know before you delete your account.
Content you added to other people's memorials (for example, chapters or photos in a memorial someone else owns) is part of that family's memorial and stays there after you delete your account, under the control of that memorial's owner. You can delete your own contributions in the app before you delete your account, or ask the memorial's owner or us to remove them.
Owners can also delete a single memorial at any time, which deletes all of its content and files. Members can leave a memorial at any time.
If you cannot use the app, see how to request deletion by email.
Your choices and rights
You can see and correct most of your information directly in the app, and delete it as described above. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, or complain to a data protection authority. To make a request, write to support@remember-me.app from the email address on your account (or include the phone number you sign in with). We may need to confirm that the account is yours before acting, and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Children
Remember Me is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has created an account, contact support@remember-me.app and we will delete it. Memorials may of course mention children as part of a family's story; please add only what the family is comfortable sharing.
Purchases
The app is free today. We plan to offer an optional subscription, "Remember Me Plus". When it is available, payments will be handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies. We will receive only what we need to know which plan your account has, not your card details.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
