How we keep memorials private

· By Remember Me · 2 min read

A memorial holds things that matter deeply: photos, family stories, the details of someone's life and of the people still living. We built Remember Me so that those things stay within the family. Here is what that means in practice.

Nothing is public

There are no public memorial pages, no search, no feeds and no followers. A memorial can only be opened by people who have been invited to it. That is not a setting you have to remember to turn on: it is how the app works.

Access is checked every time

Who can see a memorial, and what they can do, is decided on our servers, not on anyone's phone. Every time someone opens a memorial or one of its photos, we check that they are still a member. When an owner removes someone, their access ends immediately.

Invitations are designed to be safe

Invitation links are long and random, so they can't be guessed. We store only a scrambled fingerprint of each link, not the link itself. Invitations can expire and can be revoked, and by default they only allow someone to view.

Your photos stay with the story

Photos are stored privately and can only be loaded by members of the memorial. We never add dates or places to a photo that aren't really there.

It works offline

Remember Me keeps a copy of your memorials on your device, so you can read them, and even make changes, without a connection. Your changes are sent securely once you are back online, and the app tells you if anything could not be saved.

No ads, no selling data

There are no ads in Remember Me, and we do not sell your information. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we collect and why.

You can leave at any time

You can delete your account from inside the app whenever you choose. See deleting your account for what happens to your data, including memorials you shared with others.
