Remember Me is a free app for creating private memorials of the people you love: their story, their photos and the moments that mattered, shared only with family.

Every life has a story worth keeping. Remember Me is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android where you can gather that story in one quiet, private place, and keep it safe for the people who come after.

Why we made it

When someone dies, the memories of them are scattered: photos on different phones, stories that only one aunt remembers, dates written on the back of an envelope. We wanted a place where a family could bring those pieces together slowly, without the noise of social media and without anything being public.

What you can do in Remember Me

Create a memorial with a portrait, a cover photo, a short biography and a tribute. Dates can be exact, partial ("June 1948") or approximate ("c. 1948"), so you never have to guess.

Tell their life story in chapters: childhood, love, family, work, passions, later years. Write them in any order and rearrange them as the story takes shape.

Mark the moments that mattered on a timeline, with photos attached, and choose a gentle yearly reminder for the dates you want to honour.

Keep a family circle of the people in their life and how they were related.

Invite family privately and decide who can only view and who can help write.

Private by design

There are no public profiles, no feeds, no likes and no followers. A memorial can only be seen by the people its owner invites, and access can be removed at any time. You can read more in how we keep memorials private.

Free to use

Remember Me is free. You can create as many memorials as you like and invite as many people as you need.

In your language

The app is available in eleven languages, including Arabic and Hebrew with full right-to-left layout. You can also add your own translations of a biography, tribute, chapters and events, so relatives who read a different language can follow the story too.

If you have questions, or ideas for how Remember Me could help your family, write to us at support@remember-me.app. We read every message.

How to use chapters, life events and anniversaries in Remember Me to give a life story its shape, one small piece at a time.

A whole life can feel impossible to write down. It becomes easier when you stop trying to write it all at once. In Remember Me, a life story is made of small pieces: chapters, events and the dates you want to remember.

Chapters: the shape of a life

A chapter is one part of their life. Remember Me suggests a few kinds to start from, such as childhood, love and marriage, family, work, passions and later years, but you can write about whatever matters.

Each chapter can have:

a title, in your own words;

a period, such as "1962 to 1970" or "the summers in the village";

a place;

as much or as little text as you want.

You don't have to begin at the beginning. Start with the chapter you know best, or the one you most want to keep. You can reorder chapters at any time.

Life events: the moments that mattered

Events are the single moments on their timeline: a wedding, a birth, a move to a new country, a graduation, a first home. When you add the date, Remember Me shows how old they were at the time, which often helps relatives place their own memories.

You can attach photos to an event, so the picture from that day sits right where it belongs in the story.

Honest dates

Families rarely know every date exactly. Remember Me lets you write a date as you know it:

exact: 12 June 1948

partial: June 1948, or just 1948

approximate: c. 1948

We think an honest "around 1948" is better than an invented day, and the app will never fill in a date for you.

Anniversaries

When an event has an exact date, it appears in the memorial's anniversary calendar. For the dates that matter most, like a birthday or the day they passed, you can turn on a gentle reminder once a year. You choose the time it arrives in your notification settings, and you can turn it off whenever you like.

Writing together

Some chapters belong to other people's memories. A sister may remember childhood far better than you; a colleague may know the working years. Invite them as contributors and let each person add what they know. See sharing a memorial with family.

There is no deadline and no right length. A memorial can be a few lines today and a full story years from now.

How private invitations and roles work in Remember Me: who can view, who can help write, and how you stay in control of who has access.

No one holds a whole life alone. A memorial becomes richer when the people who knew them can read it and add to it. Remember Me makes that possible while keeping the memorial private.

Private invitations

Only people you invite can open a memorial. You can send an invitation:

as a link, through any messaging app on your phone;

by email;

as a QR code, which is handy when family are together in the same room.

Each invitation is for one memorial, can expire, and can be revoked before it is used.

Choosing a role

When you invite someone, you choose what they can do:

Viewer: can read the memorial and see its photos. This is the default, and it is right for most people.

Contributor: can also add chapters, events and photos.

Admin: can also help manage the memorial and its members.

The person who created the memorial is its owner. Ownership can never be given away through an invitation.

Staying in control

As the owner you can change someone's role, revoke an invitation that hasn't been used, or remove a member at any time. When you remove someone, their access ends straight away.

Members are free too: anyone can leave a memorial they belong to. And if something in a memorial worries you, you can use Report a concern in the app, or write to support@remember-me.app.

A few gentle suggestions

Start small. Invite one or two people who will enjoy helping, then widen the circle.

Tell people what you'd like from them, for example "could you write the chapter about your years in Lyon?"

Not everyone will want to contribute, and that's fine. Reading the story is a way of taking part too.

Invitations are private links. Please only share them with the people they are meant for.

Memorials hold some of a family's most personal memories. Here is how Remember Me keeps them private, in plain language.

A memorial holds things that matter deeply: photos, family stories, the details of someone's life and of the people still living. We built Remember Me so that those things stay within the family. Here is what that means in practice.

Nothing is public

There are no public memorial pages, no search, no feeds and no followers. A memorial can only be opened by people who have been invited to it. That is not a setting you have to remember to turn on: it is how the app works.

Access is checked every time

Who can see a memorial, and what they can do, is decided on our servers, not on anyone's phone. Every time someone opens a memorial or one of its photos, we check that they are still a member. When an owner removes someone, their access ends immediately.

Invitations are designed to be safe

Invitation links are long and random, so they can't be guessed. We store only a scrambled fingerprint of each link, not the link itself. Invitations can expire and can be revoked, and by default they only allow someone to view.

Your photos stay with the story

Photos are stored privately and can only be loaded by members of the memorial. We never add dates or places to a photo that aren't really there.

It works offline

Remember Me keeps a copy of your memorials on your device, so you can read them, and even make changes, without a connection. Your changes are sent securely once you are back online, and the app tells you if anything could not be saved.

No ads, no selling data

There are no ads in Remember Me, and we do not sell your information. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we collect and why.

You can leave at any time

You can delete your account from inside the app whenever you choose. See deleting your account for what happens to your data, including memorials you shared with others.

If you have a question about privacy, write to us at support@remember-me.app.
